Brennan: Transparency builds trust

AstraZeneca CEO David Brennan called on the pharmaceutical industry today to build trust with the public by being more open about the way it does business.

“Part of restoring that trust is about being transparent,” Brennan said a speech accepting the presidency of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations.

“If we are honest, our industry has not always been as open in the past as it could have been. But I think there is recognition now that transparency is the best way to build relationships and understanding.”

Over the last few years, AstraZeneca has sought to be more about our business practices in a variety of ways, including disclosing on our website payments to physicians who speak on behalf of the company, contributions to non-profit organizations, details of new and ongoing clinical trials sponsored by AstraZeneca, reports on independent medical education grants, political contributions and post-marketing study commitments.
