Supporting our servicemen and women
AstraZeneca recently welcomed home one employee and is getting ready to welcome another who served in the National Guard and have been on active duty in support of our country.
We are proud of the brave men and women who serve our country, including 38 AstraZeneca employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
AstraZeneca is one of 15 U.S. employers to receive the 2009 Secretary of Defense Employer Support of Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. AstraZeneca was nominated for the ESGR Freedom Award for 2011.
We try to ease the burden on employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve through flexible employment policies, including:
- Providing the difference between a service member’s regular pay and military pay for military service up to 24 months
- Offering continuation of health and dental insurance for periods of military service greater than 12 months. Additionally, company-provided life insurance continues for one year after the start of the military leave and can be converted to a private plan after one year
There is a strong sense of community among these employees and their families through our Military Support Employee Network Group.
Judy Zaal, Special Project Officer, explains:
AstraZeneca also supports Delaware Boots on the Ground, a local non-profit organization in our home state of Delaware that reaches out to military members and their families to assess their needs and interests in order to enhance the quality of life during both times of deployment and peacetime.
