AZ named ‘Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace’

AstraZeneca's Jason Devine found the company’s assistance invaluable in the adoption process.

AstraZeneca has been named one of the 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces in America by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

Rankings for the list are determined by an analysis of a company’s adoption benefits such as paid leave and financial reimbursement.

AstraZeneca has been recognized each year since 2007 for the following benefits:

  • A total of seven weeks of paid parental and adoption leave for eligible employees to care for their adopted child or a child placed with the employee in foster care.
  • Reimbursement of up to $5,000 per child for certain expenses incurred during the adoption of the child.

Jason Devine, a member of the AstraZeneca sales force in Shelby, North Carolina, found the company’s adoption benefits invaluable when he and his wife adopted their daughter in 2008.

“I was overwhelmed by the grace and understanding AstraZeneca extended to me during the entire adoption process, including preparation time, travel time, actual adoption, and extended paid leave thereafter,” Jason says. “The extended amount of paid leave immediately following the adoption was instrumental in allowing my wife and me to stay at home with our daughter to help reduce any transitional or attachment issues that sometimes occur with adopted children.”

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national nonprofit public charity dedicated to dramatically increasing the adoptions of the more than 150,000 children waiting in North America’s foster care systems. Created by Wendy’s founder, Dave Thomas, who was adopted, the Foundation implements results-driven national signature programs, foster care adoption awareness initiatives and research-based advocacy efforts.
